A different kind of weekend is loading up after the past few in the mountains…

I’m on my way to Chicago for a trip with @brooksrunning and I wanted to bring you along (follow stories to watch the behind the scenes)! 🥳

It’ll be a weekend full of meeting other runners from across North America + even an Olympian (!!), exploring on our feet and making fun memories. Grateful would be an understatement. 🥹

Why am I sharing this with you?

Maybe you’ll want to apply to be on an incredible team next year! And even if you don’t, a lot of you have told me you’re curious what it’s like to be an ambassador for one of the biggest running brands.

I want to show you and be completely transparent with what’s involved, what the perks are, and the hard work we put in behind the scenes.

You don’t need to have a large following, or even be a “great” runner. All you need is passion, a true love for running, and a knack for story telling.

It’s crazy to think that us teammates have been talking since January and I met some of them while running the Vancouver Marathon for Brooks in May, but I’ll get to meet the majority of them today!! I’m entering taper week for a trail race so this fits in perfectly with the (non-existent) training plan 😅

The best hidden gem viewpoint near Banff? I think so 🥹💛

📍Three Sisters Viewpoint, Canmore, Alberta Canada

I can’t believe I grew up going to Canmore often and never visited this viewpoint! Many visitors miss it too but it’s so worth the short stop 😍

It’s is a 1km walk that will take approximately 15 mins. It’s the perfect spot for golden hour photos!

There is an off leash dog park where you park your car. Walk under the pass and don’t run across the road (which is dangerous and what some influencers have shown on ig)!

NOTES:

🫎Wildlife roam here, this is their home. It’s also elk mating season so be vigilant and leave them alone as always. We were surrounded by multiple groups of elks in the trees here — it was so surreal!

🌱PLEASE make sure you leave no trace. People come here for photo shoots and when we were there, threw confetti everywhere for a baby announcement (in the water too). Please leave any place better than before you visited so we can preserve these gems for generations to come.

Are you unintentionally fueling wildfires with your outdoor adventures? 🥺

Even after the wildfires destroyed Jasper (and are still burning in western North America), this topic really isn’t brought to light enough in the outdoorsy space. I encourage you to watch the full video and share it to your network to spread the word.

Let’s get into how our actions relate to wildfires ⬇️

Human activities like moving firewood or traveling with unclean gear and vehicles can spread invasive species, which can turn natural areas into tinderboxes.

For example, in British Columbia, non-native plants such as cheatgrass or Scotch broom dry out quickly and create dense layers of flammable material.

When a wildfire starts, these invasives burn hotter and faster, making the fire more intense and harder to control.

After the fire, these same invasive species are often the first to recolonize the burned area, outcompeting native plants and perpetuating a vicious cycle of more frequent and severe wildfires.

Other invasive species, like emerald ash borer, can be easily transported in firewood.

By killing ash trees, these invasive insects reduce forest biodiversity. If these trees were alive, they would have been carbon sinks. A carbon sink absorbs more carbon from the atmosphere than it releases, mitigating climate change.

So how can we break this cycle? It’s simpler than you might think:

1️⃣ Don’t move firewood: Transporting firewood can spread invasive pests and seeds to new areas.

2️⃣ Clean your gear before and after use: This removes hitch-hiking seeds. Don’t forget to wash your boots, boating equipment, tents, etc after every adventure before using them in different locations. And don’t forget to clean your pet’s paws and fur too!

3️⃣ Report invasive species: If you spot invasive plants or animals, report them to local authorities using resources like the app iNaturalist.

By taking these small but important steps, we can help protect our forests from the devastating effects of invasive species.

Where are my fellow weekend warriors? 😅

Happy first day back at work / school!! (or rather it feels like the first day because everyone is returning from vacation and wants to send 100 emails at once 🙃)

Well summer’s not quite over yet!! We still have a few weeks to go before fall arrives and cold weather adventures begin 😎

Even when we get busy with life, it’s importtant to schedule nature breaks and new experiences so we have something to look forward to and don’t simply get caught up in the mundane :)
